Haunted Carousels

Ever been to an amusement park as a kid and got the creeps from the carousel horses? Well I have. Not every fair or carnival I've been to, mind you, but some. I used to think that it may have been just a healthy imagination, but there may be something to this. In Cleveland there's reportedly a haunted carousel, and I have to admit the story is short and to-the-point, but it never ceases to give me chills when I read or hear about it.

Cedar Point Amusement Park: Aparently this particular park has a very old carousel, the kind with hand carved horses. The story goes that the man who carved the horses for the carousel caught his wife cheating on him with a jockey from the local horse track. Being the jealous sort he shot and killed both of them. There is a black horse on the carousel with bones carved into his mane, and the image of a jockey is carved into the saddle of another horse. Employees have reported hearing the music of the carousel at night while it spins backwards. The employees have also reported leaving it at night and arriving the next morning to find the horses in different positions.

I'm trying to find out exactly how old the carousel is, but I've not found any contact information as of yet. So for those of you visitors from Cleveland... If you live anywhere near that carousel, go take a spin and see what you may discover! And if you are familiar with this (or any other) haunted carousel, please write to me and tell me your experience. I'd love to post it here for others to read.

The stories are many, chilling, yet compelling. Carousels.
