So why exactly are they called "haunted avatars"? Well, for a couple of reasons, the design being one. The other reason is more interesting, however, and this is the real reason I named them as such.
I suppose this little trick may work with all avatars, though I can't say I've gotten this to work on others, but here's how it works:
The avatars to the right are sized at 87 pixels wide by 80 pixels high. Some are animated, some are not. Now this trick works with the animated ones, so be sure that if you want to try it out to download the right type. NOTE: please SAVE the image to your machine to upload elsewhere. No hotlinking!
When you apply your avatar on your online forums, or on your web page since some put theirs on there too, resize the avatar smaller than the actual pixels, then watch the change in effect. For example: resize the image in the html coding to 60 pixels by 60 pixels. I've done this below to show you the difference. The left image is 87 x 80 pixels, while the right is set to 67 x 60. Notice how the tear leaves a 'bloody trail' down the vampire's face!
